Racing/Learn to Race Instructor

Overview:

The WHYC is seeking instructors to teach children in both a “Learn to Sail” and a “Learn to Race” setting using Hartley12’s. The Hartley12 Sailing Instructor will teach basic racing rules and techniques, and will also manage a racing series/clinic in Hartley12’s. A Sailing Instructor’s primary duty is teaching students (both children and adults) to sail safely and correctly in group and private settings. A Sailing Instructor will implement curriculum as guided by the Sailing Master. A Sailing Instructor will act as a role model for their students, demonstrating respect for people, equipment, and the sport of sailing.

Time Commitment:

  • Preferable: 1 week before program starts (June 25-29) and 1 week after program ends (August 20-24)
  • Full Time: 7 week program (July 2 – August 17)
  • Hours: Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm, Fridays 8am-1:30pm

Qualifications:

  1. Strong background in sailing instruction and dinghy racing
  2. US Sailing Level 1 Small Boat Instructor Certification required
  3. Minimum 2 years experience as a coach/instructor in a sailing program
  4. Experience in racing/race management (proficiency setting a course, scoring, protests, etc.)
  5. Proficiency driving a small powerboat
  6. Current First Aid/CPR certification
  7. Capable of general boat maintenance
